In July 2007 Companion Star created a performing arts educational program for the Boys & Girls Club of Bellport, NY. This six-week pilot project helped these beginning artists to develop performance skills through improvisations and to explore their creativity through word, song and movement. The program, a resounding success, was based on the same principles Companion Star uses in its professional performance projects, proving the versatility of our creative process. The program participants ranged from 8 to 18 years of age.
Companion Star also offered vocal scholarships for individual study to exceptionally talented participants in the program. The average number of participants in the workshops was 14. A recipient of one of the scholarships in 2008 earned a spot in the competition for the TV show Showtime at the Apollo.
Companion Star looks forward to expanding its Emerging Artist program to more communities, both in the U.S. and abroad.
